The project reflects on the passage of time during 2020 lockdown and the resultant heightened awareness of the natural environment that it brought.  The way the altered experience of time and repetitive patterns of the day during this period began to mirror nature’s pace and cycles.  Lockdown provided an opportunity to listen and notice, reconnect us with some deep past, back to a time, perhaps, when we understood ourselves to be part of nature and not above it. 

A moment of time between time, time without time, time before time.

Kairos is one of two Greek words for time, the other being Chronos. It differs from chronos, the generally accepted uniform ‘always moving forward’ concept of time, referring instead to the qualitative aspect of time, as a special temporal moment of opportunity or significant event. Kairos as historical moment can be recognised as a time of a crisis and judgement, but if seized can be an opportune moment to reflect on where we find ourselves and how we want to proceed.

The project includes 3 framed Giclee prints on archival Japanese Washi Paper and 3 digital images to be projected in a darkened exhibition space.
