The Entropic Understory (2023)
‘The Entropic Understory’ uses a natural ecosystem as metaphor for the networks and structures which form our ever-accelerating and entangled digital technologies. A single photograph of the forest floor has morphed into multiple smaller images, each unique and yet in some way connected to a previous version. These images have been digitally altered/glitched and compressed using computer programs. As they replicate and mutate, relational paths link them to become part of multiple conceptual structures, like nodes of a rhizome transforming and spreading in various directions. Nature’s evolution as the ultimate model of order and disorder achieved over huge expanses of time.
Works from this series were shortlisted for the 2023 Small Files Photo Festival at The Photographers Gallery, London. Click here to find out more about the festival.
